Following a highly successful UN Environment Assembly, the Future Resolution for Global Environment Outlook (GEO) was approved by member states by March 2, 2022, and defined in the EA.5/3 resolution. At the same time, the timeline for production of the seventh edition of the Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7) is defined by the RESOLUTION EA.5/3, which specifies that the main assessment report and its accompanying summary for decision makers (SPM) shall be prepared every four years, and that GEO-7 shall be presented for a future session of UNEA for approval not before 2025. As a part of the production process, scientific and linguistic editing is required after the completion of the main report and the second draft (SOD) of the summary for decision makers (SPM) in March and July 2025. Based on the workload of the GEO-7 reports, an editing company will be recruited to ensure the highest technical quality, consistency, clarity and readability of the GEO-7 main report and the summary for decision makers scheduled to be released during the seventh session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in December 2025. Duration May 2025 to November 11, 2025 Specific assignments and requirement 4.1 Scientific editing Review and revise the content of the GEO-7 main report and its SPM to improve scientific clarity, consistency, context and readability. Ensure consistency, context, and context across chapters and manuscripts, including main text, text boxes, tables, shapes, and infographics. Fact check claims and statements made. Review and edit captions for graphs, shapes, maps, diagrams, illustrations, and other visual elements. Ensure correct cross-references between data or numbers referred to in the text and the respective table or shape; between the citations in the text and the bibliography; and between concepts referred to in the text and in the glossary. Work closely with the coordinating main authors who are responsible for each manuscript to clarify ambiguous points, suggest changes, and improve the overall quality of the script. 4.2 Language editing Ensure correct syntax, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ensure clarity, consistency, and context across all chapters and manuscripts. Make sure that your language is available to non-expert audiences and non-native English speakers. Avoid jargon and overdue complex settlement construction. Implement gender sensitive and inclusive language. Re-formulate text that has been flagged for potential plagiarism based on plagiarism inspection reports. Follow the UNEP reference guide, UN certified styles for spelling, geographical names, abbreviations, acronyms and capital letters, as well as other formatting requirements. Make sure all links are active and correct. Review the layout of the entire report, the SPM, and the 10-page summary. 4.3 Development of a 10 page summary to support communication measures In close consultation with the GEO team, prepare a 10 page summary or synthesis that gathers a narrative with the main findings to support communication measures. The document is intended for public consumption and it shall use clear and simple languages that are easily understood for persons with different levels of technical knowledge and An English language background. The draft will be based on a collection of key messages and findings from the authors of each chapter. Further information can be found in the annexes.
