1. Description
In a strategic move announced during a press conference on November 30. 2023, Danmarks Nationalbank revealed its initiatives to ensure the continued relevance of cash in Denmark. Recognizing the enduring importance of cash transactions, efforts are being made to enhance the safety and efficiency of banknotes, aligning them with technological advancements. Danmarks Nationalbank is set to issue a new banknote series, anticipated around 2028-2029, with a commitment to phasing out older series. All banknote series, except the current 2009 and 2009A series featuring bridges and artifacts, will be rendered invalid after May 31, 2025.
In order to ensure efficient and safe change onto the new banknote series, Danmarks Nationalbank wishes with this request for information to initiate dialogue with potential interested suppliers of one (1) banknote destruction system (bulk shredder/granulation machine).
All interested suppliers are kindly requested to review the enclosed document titled Specifications. Additionally, suppliers are invited to provide their comments on the Specifications by completing and submitting the enclosed document titled "Comments to the Specifications". Comments will be discussed at the dialogue meeting.

2. Type of system:
Danmarks Nationalbank will tender for one (1) machine for mass destruction of banknotes (bulk shredder/granulation). The following topics describe the main requirements:
- the purchase and installation of a bulk shredder or granulation machine for the destruction of large quantities of banknotes.
- As a minimum, the machine is to correspond to DIN 66399 standard class 2, P4.
- The bulk shredder/granulation machine will be used to destroy ink-dyed and other banknotes in large quantities. This destruction will be of whole bundles of banknotes. The machine must be constructed to be able to destroy wrapping and banknotes of surface-sized cotton fibre. It must also be able to destroy other material present in the banknotes such as thin threads of polyes-ter and aluminium (embedded threads) and thin aluminium foil (holographic tape). It must also be able to destroy wrappers, rubber bands, staples, paper clips and other smaller plastic objects.
- The bulk shredder/granulation machine must destroy the bank-notes in a closed, locked and monitored system.
- Service agreement is assumed to be a part of the purchase.
